The first time I read about Gue monastery was when i was going through my itinerary . It immediately caught my attention because of its special attraction (a mummy) ,this  would be the first time I was going to see a real life mummy which made the whole experience even more fascinating.  In the depths of himachal pradesh  228 kms from kaza village ( a subdivisional headquarter) lies a small village Gue . Famous for a mummy  of a lama meditating for over 500 years . It took me around 4 hours to reach Gue from Kaza to see the shrine with a dead body dried up through a natural process, with its eyes, teeth and hair intact.

Believed to over 500 years old, this rare natural mummy belongs to Sangha Tenzin, a Buddhist monk who started the self-mummification process while still living! In 1975, an earthquake in the wind-sculpted Spiti Valley opened up a time-worn tomb in Gue, a little hamlet about 30 miles from the famous Tabo Monastery.

The road was quite tiresome but as soon as I reached the monastery all I could sense was Peace and calm .The Experience was surreal. My whole concept of mummy with wrapped  around bandages which I built up after watching all the scifi movies  got changed after seeing the real thing . A must visit I would say.
